How to slay your Dragon

Why ... what big aether you got!

Why ... what big aether you got!

Although this post is backdated – it was written on the 31/12/2017.

It just occurred to me that I have not written anything about Shinryu Extreme which I have found to be one of the most interesting fights I have had during the whole of Stormblood and I am hoping that this fight is a model for the future extreme trials to come.

Just like the other fights this fight is a re-telling of the original fight of our lovely bard. The fight itself is pretty simple by logic and very forgiving but it can try practice to execute well as it all depends mostly on how well you are able to react to visual clues.

Shinryu has a couple things he will do which mostly depends on what his wings are casting. If it is Hypernova you stack in a puddle, if it is hellfire you do the same and if it is thunder you don’t stack anywhere close to the water or each other. What I just said is pretty much the whole fight and the difference is how you react to them happening one after another. Toss in the odd tidal wave, earth shakers and make sure to stack your green icon in the right place and you are done.

Then you got your simple add-phase which just involved burning everything down until they die. The final phase is where it can get a bit tricky but at this point, you have seen everything. You have your standard wings casting but this time they will do it together but you will have noticed by now it doesn’t really matter as all you have to watch out for is Hypernova (stack and don’t move) and thunder which is move out of the way and keep moving.

Afterwards, dodge the AoEs and kill the wings and you are done.

The reason I love this fight is that it makes you think and it makes you react. I hope we see a lot more of these fights and I promise to come next patch I will do a review and a quick tip when I actually clear them.
